About this journal

One page a week, for the year everybody else thinks you are getting through.

A daily grief journal asks for something you do not have. This one asks once a week. A question on the left, an empty page on the right, and nothing that has to be filled in on the days you cannot.

How the year is laid out

  • Weeks 1 to 13: the house, the paperwork, the hour of the day that is worst
  • Weeks 14 to 26: the messages thin out and the world goes back to normal
  • Weeks 27 to 39: the half nobody asks about
  • Weeks 40 to 52: the weeks before the date comes round, and a letter at the end

What is inside

  • 52 weekly questions, every one of them different
  • A full lined page beside each question
  • Four read-back pages so you can see what has shifted
  • Pages at the back for the details that go first: how they said things, what they were like on an ordinary Tuesday
  • Undated, so you start in the week you are in

Written plainly, with no promises about stages, closure or healing. It is a place to put the year down.

From the back cover

A weekly journal for the year after someone dies. One question on the left, an empty page on the right, and no requirement to write anything on the days you cannot.

The questions follow the year as it actually goes: the paperwork and the house at the start, the friends who go quiet around month three, the second half when everyone assumes you are through it, and the weeks before the date comes round again.

Undated, so you can start in the week you are in.

The Year After

The first year is not one grief. It is fifty-two of them. $12.99, paperback.

Writing Through the Year After Someone Dies

Grief does not keep to the stages in the leaflet. A page a week will not fix it, but it keeps a record of a year you will otherwise barely remember.
